Dreamscene is an add-on for Windows Vista Ultimate. Microsoft released it publicly in 2007 and distributed it over Windows Update: Windows Ultimate Extras. This program lets users use video or 3D animations for wallpaper on their desktop. The official version is only available for Windows Vista Ultimate.
What's DreamScene XP?
Since DreamScene was only made to work on Windows Vista Ultimate, other Windows versions did not support it. DreamScene XP allows other versions of Windows Vista and older versions of Windows (Windows 98 or later) to use video for wallpaper. This software uses Adobe Flash to emulate the functionality that DirectX 10 provides for DreamScene.
How does it work?
Since Windows 95 Plus Edition, Microsoft has included the option to use a webpage for a desktop wallpaper. The creator of DreamSceneXP (brendan09) has used this functionality to enable moving videos on older versions of Windows.
Can't something
else do that?
Yes,
VLC media player has the capabilty to set video as a wallpaper in older
versions of Windows, but it uses many system resources and severly
impacts the performance of the computer.
How to Install:
- Download Zip File and Extract it to C:\Windows\addins\DreamScene\
- Right Click on your desktop, and select Properties.
- Choose the "Desktop" tab
- Click "Browse", and browse to C:\Windows\addins\DreamScene\ and find the file named "index". If you extracted the zip folder somewhere else, browse to there.
- Click apply
